On Tuesday, December 12, 2017, the Corona-Norco Unified School District Board of Education approved the renaming of Lincoln Alternative Elementary School to Lincoln Fundamental Elementary School.
Lincoln Alternative considers itself a “back-to-basics fundamental elementary school” and was created by the district in 1981 as an alternative for parents who wanted their kids to be educated in a more structured, traditional program. Traditional values such as patriotism and citizenship are also an integral part of the school’s culture.
The district says the name change does not change the values of the school or the program in which it was founded on, but it does more closely align the school’s name with Corona Fundamental Intermediate School, which the majority of Lincoln students attend with Priority 2 registration status. The district says this will also support its fundamental approach to education and align to Corona Fundamental to help create a K-8 pathway.
This is just one of the many changes happening at the school. Lincoln is one of the handful of schools in the district benefiting from the Measure GG school construction and is in the midst of a renovation that will provide the school with two new kindergarten classrooms, a kindergarten entrance, a new large multipurpose room, library and media center, and administration building. The construction is scheduled to finish in May of 2018.
